Self Prepared Returns & E-file:
Self preparation of tax returns will open January 6, 2012.
The IRS will begin accepting e-filed returns on January 17, 2012.
This page is established to allow those who wish to self-prepare and e-file their tax returns the opportunity to do so using a trusted and reliable online software program. Simply click on the image below and it will bring you to the account sign-in page where you can either establish an account for the first time or sign into your existing account.
Please know that you are responsible for all of your information submitted in this manner as you are preparing your tax return(s) yourself. If you have any problems with the site or technical questions, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org. I never 'walk' anyone through preparation of a return or answer questions for people performing self-preparation, even for a fee. It would be similar to a doctor guiding a patient through their own surgery. Therefore, it would be against the ethics of my profession to do so and is also against the law since I would be obligated to sign the return. For the same reason, 1040.com will not answer any tax questions either. For additional help with the taxes that you are preparing yourself, visit the IRS site and review their instruction booklets and publications for your specific tax needs at IRS.gov or call them at 1-800-829-1040 to help you with your tax questions.
Today's tax laws are so complicated that unless your financial situation is fairly simple, chances are you will benefit from at least occasional help from a tax professional. It is too easy to overlook deductions and credits to which you are entitled (especially if you are in business) if you prepare only one return a year. Even the use of computer software, which can be a handy tool, is no substitute for the assistance of a seasoned tax preparer.
If you find that your return is more complicated than you thought please contact me via e-mail so that we can discuss my preparing and filing your return for you.
